XP clean up

Hi all,
Anyone could tell me what files i could delete in XP to safely free some disk space.
I m thinking of all the back up and restore point files may be ?
I think i m going to turn off the restore system off, it doesn t seem to do much but takin some disk space ...
please tell me if this is a horrible mistake !

Second question :
Should i reformat after changing the mothe board ?

uh.. u can run disk cleanup..

or go to the uninstaller thingy and get ride of everything you dont need.. such as internet explorer ^_^
 
You may delete System Volume Information and contents of Local Settings folder. It takes a lot of place usually. To view this folder go to C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings and Unhide Hidden files and folders in My computer Window Tools - Folder options - View tab - find proper tick.

Reformatting is best because the new motherboard will probably use different drivers for onboard sound, LAN, USB, etc. However, you could try installing the new motherboard without reformatting, then install new drivers afterward. Doesn't leave your Windows registry as clean as reformatting but it may turn out OK. Be sure to look at Device Manager and see whether everything looks OK there.
