XP CD burning

My XP SP2 lost the ability to burn a CD. It worked fine one day and now it doesen't have the option. I tried two other burners that work on my othe system so I don't think it's the burners. Cable has been changed as well. I used Nero and it said it was erasing the RW dvd but never really did it. I have tried 4 different brands of media, both CD and DVD and it either says it's not the correct Type or just refuses to reconize the disk at all. I have reinstalled Nero as well. Any ideas?
