XP, can't burn over 4x

Hi there, I tried a search and wasn't able to come up with anything so I thought I would write this. I have XP Pro and an LG 12x8x32 burner. I have installed a few burning apps (nero 5.5.3, fireburner 2.11) and some XP ASPI drivers, but cannot seem to burn anything faster than 4x. If I try faster I make a coaster and the buffer dies.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

thanks in advance

Try right click on your cd drive in my computer.
-->properties-->hardware
then set speed to 'fastest'. You may have this set to 4x.
Let us know.

I installed a windows update for Cd-Burners yesterday, but can't remember what it was..lol..I checked my installation history but it just says "Update for cd-burners" Not sure if was specific to mine.

hmmmm No luck, it is set to fastest (thanks for the tip though, hadn't checked that yet), and I did install the MS update the other day. I was hoping that would fix it, but no luck yet.

I am hoping that the Roxio Easy CD Creator patch might help, but in the meantime does anyone have any other ideas?
