XP boot priority problem.

I just installed an AMD X2 4400 dual core processeor on my computer. I had some issues getting XP to boot after flashing the BIOS to see the second core. But finally was able to do so....however, it boots to my old install of XP on my IDE drives. My newer SATA install isn't recognized unless I disconnect the IDE drives. I went into BIOS and changed boot priorities to make SATA drive primary but as long as the IDE drives are connected it boots to that XP install. Any thoughts? I am using a MSI Neo4 Platinume SLI motherboard.

Have you change the jumpers on your IDE drive to be a secondary drive. There should be a layout of the jumper settings on your hard drive if not research the OEM for it.

Boot from the XP CD, go to the recovery console, and use the fixboot command, then fixMBR if needed. Also, if you would like to be able to still access the older IDE install at some point, then use the command bootcfg /add in the RC, and add that install. That way every time you boot the system, you can choose which install you want from a list.

I figured out how to get it to work. Although in BIOS I set the boot priority. There is also an option F11 to select the Boot Menu at the same time you can enter BIOS setup. I used that and found that although BIOS settings were SATA first...the Boot Menu was still setup to use IDE first. Not sure why the two settings aren't shared, but after changing that it booted up properly. this wasn't part of the old BIOS so I wasn't familiar with it. But so far things are going well with both cores seen by XP.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
