XP Blue Screen: DRIVE_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I am getting the error on two different machines. The only thing similar between the 2 systems is the chipset and video card. Using Intel Chipset Driver version 4.00.1013, IAA 2.2, and Nvidia Detonator 29.42. The 2nd system is a brand new build/install. The first system has been going for 6 months, hadn't really changed anything, then all of a sudden I started getting these errors. I also get an error sometimes where the video card will not start for some reason. Is the solution to getting rid of this blue screen to turn ACPI off? How do I turn it off? Why is it happening? Also, games on the first system have become extremely choppy, I've tried multiple versions of the Detonators and also reinstalled the chipset drivers.

Many topics about this in Technical Support, look for 'infinite loop bug'. This is a common problem in XP, and it is very well known. I used to have this problem all the time on my XP box, what did it for me was downgrading the detonator drivers and hitting Load Fail Safe Defaults in my BIOS. Try the various ways to fix this common problem or downgrade. Right now I'm running 2k and it runs much better 🙂.

after a bunch of searching for info on the problem, i uninstalled black ice defender and now everything seems better. its weird because my video isnt choppy anymore. hopefully that was the problem. i also downgraded my detonators so it might have been a combination of the 2. thanks.

I get that error but for my on-board highpoint ide controller. the techie sent me new drivers but it didn't let me run winxp it got stuck in the load up. my friend says the new detonator drivers are flaky so he told me to wait. on downloading them

try system restoring if everthing else fails .... also you might want to read up on what drivers you want for your geforce... you can read reviews and download just about any nvidia driver from this site http://www.guru3d.com/geforcetweakutility/
also ...

what games are you having trouble with?
remember to keep ur v-sync on and make sure you got the latest chipset drivers
also use open gl if you can in a reasonable resolution and keep in mind that choppy video games can be the result of many different things. if its an online game ... ur net code (cmd and update rates) may play a role in howmany frames per second you get.

almost forgot ... check to see what ur monitors refresh rate is at ... seeing as how it can affect your video cards frame rate

the game was unreal tournament, which is awful in opengl. vsync is on, refresh rate is 100hz. im now using detonator 23.11. it was actually choppy in single player too. but ever since i uninstalled black ice, everything is fine. its kind of bizarre because i wouldnt think it would have anything to do with the problems. thanks!

The Lockergnome newsletter mentioned that the latest Detonator drivers caused problems, especially with DVD playback.
