XP bass and treble greyed out

Ok so I have epocx 8gka mobo with built on sound.. I go to adjust the bass and treble and they are greyed out. Is this a need for an audio codec? I have updated the sound drivers from epox's website... but still no go. Anyone seen this before? I know dell adressed this issue with a driver issue because the default winxp/2k drivers cause problems with those settings but since I have the correct drivers I was thinking that it could be the codecs?

...at least in my travels, there was never a codec you could load for that to work - the actual chipset drivers or the chipset it self (whichever - I'm too tired and ticked right now to remember) have to support those functions, else it'll just sit there idle...

some sound boards dont have support for that in hardware, so the drivers won't enable it..... usually its a problem with cheap or on-board sound.... I'd actually suggest a decent sound board upgrade for many reason including better sound quality and less cpu usage... an SB live 5.1 is as low as $20 on the web....

I'm assuming it uses a via chipset for sound...try the drivers on vias site if it is...they might help. BTW like the others said, some audio chips dont support tone controls.
