Well, if you system could boot, it would be under Start>Programs>Accesories>System Tools>System Restore. How far do you get booting your machine?

if you can get it to boot into safe mode you can run it, however if you cannot boot the OS at all than you could try a recovery install (an option if you boot the machine with the XP CD)
programs>accesories>system tools>system restore

-Spy

the little dos progress bar loads all the way but when its full it just stays there and the comp stops responding.

when i try safe mode it loads all of drivers and after the last one (amdagpxp.sys) it stops responding, similar to when normal booting.

Have you tried to boot with the "last known good configuration" ?

ASR is not the same as System Restore. System Restore is a tool inherited from WinME. ASR was originally part of NT4 server. Assuming you created an ASR recovery disk, boot from your XP cd and choose Automated Recovery.
