XP and User Switching and SETI...and now...help a fellow cruncher?

Ok...I'd setup my ex's dad's PC with SETI (It's a DELL P4 2.6GHz running XP Home).

Also, I'd setup two users (one for him and one for the grandkids) with the Startup folder on each pointing to the same install of SETI. I think that was my mistake.

Question...does the User Switching in XP keep any background programs running on the user that is not the currently active user?

Yes it does

As Freewolf said, it would probably easier to just set it up as a service.

...unless he's on dialup, in which case you'll probably need another program to go along with SETI (SETIdriver? It's been a while since I played with that stuff), thus rendering a service install impossible. Fast User Switching can fark up other DC clients, and I assume it can do the same with SETI (especially if files aren't locked properly and/or aren't on a NTFS partition).

Well...I don't get over there much but I'll switch it to a service next time I'm there. He's running on broadband (3.02mbps when I tested at dslreports.com!!) and, from what I remember, the volume is formatted as NTFS (it's a Dell that came w/XP pre-installed).

I did have my ex point it to my SetiQueue so I can check on its progress now! 😀

Ok...stopped by there today and setup SETIDriver as a service so that will take care of that!

Just wish I could figure out how to get my SetiQueue visible to the outside world so I could point that PC to my queue. Opened port 5517 on the DSL modem and in the Win XP ICS firewall. No go. 🙁

Seems I tried that, too....i even setup the DSL modem for IP Passthru to the 'gateway' machine, too. Nothing doing.

I'll look around google or Bellsouth's support page tonight and see if I can find something related.
