XP and that STUPID MSN Messenger (for all IE6 users)

How in the WORLD does one remove the stupid MSN Instant Messenger?
Even if I DID use the service I would still be greatly aggitated by it's constantly opening whenever I open my email client.
Removing it from startup was easy enough, same as every other program, but removing it entirely is another story.

Also, I noticed you can't remove movie maker, and a few other programs as well.
I remember there was a line you could edit/add to an ini file for either 2k or 98 that would open up all the other programs that normally were not shown in Add/Remove Windows Components, I can't remember what it was though, and would that work in this case?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I found a way to disable it at least....in RC2 Outlook 2k did not have the option (for me anyway) of disabling support for MSN Messenger, but now that I have Office XP and Win XP I have that option.

I would still like to know how to remove things like Movie Maker and whatnot....

Here's a way to permanently delete it & a few other programs too.

Go into your c:\winnt\inf\sysoc.inf . open the " sysoc.inf " file & remove all " ,hide " entries & save it,you can do a replace from the edit tab, this will go faster.

now got to ADD/REMOVE programs in control panel,go to add remove windows components, after that you'll have a bunch of stuff you can remove including the messenger. 🙂

I'm using Win2k, but that MSN Messenger used to pop up everytime I wanted to just check my email with Outlook Express. I got it stop loading it by disabling the "contact list" in Outlook Express (just close the window with the ppl in your address book in it).

And don't even try to email the MSN helpdesk .. and if you do. say hi to them from me 🙂
