XP and remote desktop problem with keyboard...

I have WinXP Pro and have all the updates from MS. I have found that on my pc if I use the remote desktop for either VPN or even a remote assistance that my keyboard is not working quite properly. For instance, if the num lock key is on, it seems as though it is a shift-lock and moving the cursor with the arrows highlights things. If I turn off the numlock, I can't use the shift key to highlight anything at all, but it DOES work to do the !@#$%^&*()_+ which is quite odd. I thought it may just be me having some odd setting but I just put together a new XP machine and downloaded all the updates for it and it shows the same problem. The only machine that I have seen that doesn't have the problem is an older one that I don't use that often and I have not updated it. Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone know how to fix it!? The two machines I have were tested using the same keyboard too.

While not necessarily a fix for your problem, I'm a huge fan of Remote Administrator (available through www.famatech.com). It's a tiny, great program for remote work/support/etc.

I'll look into that for my personal use, but I don't believe that fixes my VPN to work problem : (
