Since the XP os was introduced MS have disabled the PCMCIA slots unless it detects some connected hardware, however i have a notebook cooler that simply taps into the power pins and nothing else. As such XP doesnt detect any hardware and doesnt power the pcmcia slot.

Does anyone know of a reg tweak to power them up?

(note: in win98 the slots are powered, so i am certain this is an XP control issue!)

That doesn't seem logical. But, why not get a good cooler that uses USB power?

Tom

You might try changing the ACPI character of your laptop - Control Panel, Power Management, and use the "Desktop" always on setting.

Anyway -it's a bump. :)
