Have any of you downloaded the p3 patch from microsoft for windows xp? Is it necessary? I havent had to reboot xp yet, but occassionally I get application crashes which I am sure are due to the memory leaks. My main question is, can it be downloaded without going to the windows update page? For 'certain reasons', I would rather not visit their update pages, but cannot find the update available anywhere as a standalone executable patch. Any ideas?

I downloaded it.. Didnt really notice any difference..

I get two memory leaks in XP... One occurs when running Norton 2002 in normal protect mode in background.. After about 6 hours all my 384 megs is used up..

The other issue I get is when trying to view properties on a LARGE incomplete divx.. MY computer chugs and chugs until it finallly opens properties.. but if its a 600meg divx, it may take 3 minutes of chugging..

I feel like both of these leaks are probably software issues and although they bother me i can live with them becuase otherwise, XP runs VERY fast and responsive on my Abit Be62 and pent700@933 with 384megs RAM....Especially with the latest Nvidia drivers with the hardware accel for the GUI.. I run it with all the eye candy and usually with my normal apps open (chat, ftp server etc) i'm using about 150-180megs RAM

The P3 drivers didnt seem to help either of these issues..

thx for the opinion... I actually cant go to their site to download it, you see, my roommate didnt pay the phone bill, now its disconnected, she wont pay it and wont transfer it to me so I cant get online... and my dsl turned off a few months ago... =( so thats why i wanted to find it in a 'portable' version, so I can take it home on a zip disk. Blah. Thx

I could be wrong but I dont think its possible to get a "portable" version of MS udates.

The times I've gone to MS you are forced to use their integrated "live update" download where the files are streamed and installed rather than a large setup file being downloaded.. I'm sure there is a way to get the whole file but I dunno..
