XP AND NVIDIA DRIVER PROBLEMS

Hey all,

I've posted here a few times already about problems, but I just can't seem to get this one fixed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

To those of you who don't know, I changed my video card to a Geforce4 4200 128MB, and it's been causing me problems. As of now, I can't do ANYTHING with this new card that's remotely video-related; I can't play games, can't do winamp visualizations, can't even play a goddamn mpeg file.

Now. I just formatted my drive and did an installation of Windows XP Pro. I tested out an mpeg - it worked fine. Then, I installed the latest nvidia detonator drivers (30.82, WHQL certified). After the reboot, I tried playing the same mpeg again - and my whole system locked up.

So, it seems like it's the driver's problem. When I was trying this before, I tried a lot of the older drivers too, but nothing seemed to work. Any ideas? PLEASE HELP if you can, I'm at a loss.

AMD 1GHz
384 MB RAM
MSI 6330 Motherboard
Geforce4 4200 128MB
Adaptec SCSI Ultra 160 29160 Host Adapter (SCSI Hard drive)

That`s the MSI K7T Pro motherboard? You tried flashing to the latest BIOS,I know there was a BIOS update for XP OS awhile back(can`t remember what it fixed),also what PSU are you using, try installing the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers as well.

Try some BIOS tweaks like disable video ram cacheable ,disable system bios cacheable, disable all video shadowing,AGP aperture size should be 64mb or 128mb, also do you`ve any idea of your cpu temps etc?

I have the updated BIOS for my mobo and also for SCSI controller, just to be safe. I've installed the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers. I have a 300W ps, so I'm guessing that should be fine too...as for video ram/system bios cacheable, those have always been disabled. I had my aperture at 256, but I changed it to 128...no difference. Any other ideas?

Only other things I can think of is try MSI drivers for your card, remember to remove the Nvidia drivers first, and if that does not work try moving the PCI cards around to see if it`s a IRQ problem,I always leave PCI slot 1 empty (which`s nearest to AGP slot).

I've temporarily solved my problem by setting the card to run as PCI. All video and games run great, but I know that I'm not taking full advantage of the card, especially texturing. AGP mode will lockup my computer when I run anything with video acceleration. You can set the PCI mode in the display properties, under advanced. Being able to use the card with mediocre potential is still better than not being able to run the card without lockups.
