XP and Hard Drive

Two hardrives, one master one slave. I saved ALL of my files (3 Gig+) to the slave because I was doing a clean reinstall of XP Pro. Later when I went to retieve my files from the slave, XP tells me it does not recognize the drive, even though device manager and my bios says it is working fine. I need these files! Any help would be appreciated. I figure this is an XP issue, since in the past I never have had this occur.
