I'd really like to play FF7 and FF8 on my rig.

I run XP and I have C2D E6600 and 8800GT.

Anyone have links or can tell me exactly which files and settings to use?

Ugh I've had issues in the past but it can be done (stupid game tells me my graphics card fails at certain tasks), and it's been ages since I've tried either of them so I'll try to be of help...

IIRC, there are patches online that let them work with modern graphics drivers. Any of the hardware rendering settings that work should do it for you. Software rendering will make you want to shoot yourself. It will also try to install the yamaha synth, which I think works fine and I don't think it bloats up your system.

Also, especially for FF7 but also FF8 I would HIGHLY recommend to rip all the CD's to an image file on your hard drive, and install the game/run the image from daemon tools or equivalent. The videos in game will load up much faster / better.

I have both running in Vista x64. There were two seperate patches for FF7. One of them corrected the issue with checkered backdrops. There is no such fix for FF8, so I have to run it in software mode.

I would link to my old FF7 thread if I could find it, but the Search here sucks.

Let me look a little while longer, I had a ton of good info and plenty of helpful responses.

wired247 just hit upon the high points.

EDIT:
OH CRAP!
Not only did I find it but somebody bumped the darn thing and I didnt notice.
Here it is:

I will only post in that thread from now on, we'll go ahead and add FF8 info too.
