XP and cd to cd copying

I have a 56x iomagic drive on an ATA 100 controller, and a 24x burner on the motherboard.

when i copy cd to cd, my buffer goes all the way up, then all the way down. With win 98, i turned on DMA and this problem was fixed. i thought i turned on dma w/ xp, but it is still really really slow.

any suggestions?

What mobo?

You did go into device manager then the properties for each IDE controller (under the advanced tab) to set the DMA right? No DMA conflicts? Everything look ok in the bios?

If you have a mobo with a sis chipset then you may need to get a utility called siside.exe to enable DMA. Turning it on in device manager doesn't get it done I've read.

Make sure you install the new patch to fix the burning problem that would give you bad cds or sometimes the cd will work in XP but not in any other OS.

a) where do i get the new patch?
b) i check all the settings, they are all on DMA. It is a tyan motherboard and a promise controller card. i know the hardware works cause it worked with 98.

any other suggestions?
