Just looking for some opinions. At home I run windows 7 with an SSD. Here at work I have to run a DOS based program so I tend to use older machines with xp installed. Would like to speed them up a little. Currently they are running E8400 chips. Has anyone had good luck with xp and an SSD? Especially since I don't need much in way of size. I could easily get away with an Intel 520 series 120GB. Or am I simply wasting my time.

I am using XP as main os on a Z77 and have several older pc to maintain with XP and ssd .
I think the best performing chipset for xp is the P35/45/55 chipset , basicly i think xp don t handle the new cpu instructions like w7 .
The oldest pc is a intel 875 sata 1 chipset that has no problem with a ssd .They are in ide mode because that is the default setting of that type of motherboard ,so when something happens and the bios resets to default the pc boots with the default setting . Saves me a trip to set the bios correct and the performance impact isn t so terrible on ide . And trim works in IDE mode but not automatic like in W7/8 , that is way you got to buy a ssd with a good tool to manuel trim the ssd . If you make partitions with W7/8 the partitions are aligned properly, XP alignes not good for ssd.

The hostwriting from XP can be real low when disabling some things , always think it is strange that a os hostwrite so much:\

How did you get it working? I have a Corsair F90 SSD that wont work with my Abit IC7 (i875P chipset). The SSD wont get recognized.

That could be a problem , the ssd intel G2.G3 that i have are Sata2 and have basicly primtief ATA command sets . The 320 has basicly the same controller as the G2 .The V40 G2/3 have low seq.reads they are good for such a pc with seqentieel iq bottleneck arround 150 MB .
So incompatibiltie with some brands can happen ,but the 875 chipset is good . A ssd realy gets the iq bottleneck from such a pc
