XP and ACPI

I've recently read a MS KB article describing how to invoke the HAL in Win XP during install.

http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=kb;en-us;Q237556

I'm thinking of doing this in order to try and keep the ACPI from it's tendency to bunch IRQ's. I've got a Soyo Dragon+ that has the graphics accelerator, NIC, and sound all sharing the same IRQ (11). ACPI in WinXP disallows changing device resources (they're all dimmed in device manager) on systems with motherboards and BIOS that support advanced ACPI utilization. The NIC and sound are onboard, so I can't move them to a different slot. The problems I've been seeing is spurious reboots and sound stuttering when listening to streaming music usic MusicMatch 7. Any ideas/suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!!

Andy,

Much appreciate the info about ACPI and HAL. I know virtual IRQ's are suppossed to eliminate problems with contention, but I can't help but wonder if it's always the case. I'm running the latest drivers, bios, etc. that I can get my hands on, but still expreience the problem. I'm going to try restoring my system to the way it was prior to the MusicMatch install to see if it makes a difference (of course, saving my present config as well). If still no luck, I'll probably make a copy of my current partition on another drive and hide it (using Partiton Magic) so I can easily revert back to it and try over-installing XP and select the standard HAL just to satisfy my curiosity. I'll keep the forum posted on the results!

Alex:)
