XP and 2000 install freezes

Tried to install XP from the CD to a newly formated HD.
After muitiple blue screens showing all the drivers being installed, it gets to the sceen where you need to hit enter to continue, esc to cancel, etc.

At that point the no input is accepted from the keyboard; therfore can not continue the install.

Tried to install 2000, stopped at the same screen and again the keyboard is dead.

The only way around it is to install 98 and then upgrade to XP.

Anyone know what's happening to the keyboard?

It is an older 750 mhz system.

It doesnt sounds like the keyboard, XP does not like to install on a machine with bad hardware. My guess is its hardware IE mainaboard.

I would agree with you, but why if I install 98 first, then I can install XP.

I had the same issue with 2000.

I remember I had the same problem, and it turned out to be caused by my defective memory. Replaced memory, and everything worked fine. Use memtest to check your RAM.
