XP + Adaptec 2940 = Veeery slow SCSI speeds?

I have the above mentioned PCI SCSI adapter, a Teac 32X SCSI CDROM, and a Teac 8x24 SCSI CDR. I was using Nero 5.5.5.1 and couldn't copy a CD faster than 4X. Puzzled, I started changing things. Here's what I did..

1: Updated ASPI Layer
2: Checked Adaptec's website for a new driver, latest is on WinXP CD.
3: Ran WIndows Update, no CDR-related updates.
4: Rearranged SCSI ID's
5: Dropped FSB
6: Installed Adaptec/Roxio EZCDCreator 5.0 Platimun w/correct updates/patches

Using EZCDCreator's drive testing, I can't get above 4x in audio extraction speeds from the Teac 32X SCSI.

Any ideas?

Go and download Nero from HERE, it has a utility to check and test your cd/ cd-rw performance.
This way youll know if it is software or a hardware proplem. Also Nero lets you have much more control over your settings than Adaptec/Roxio.

The problem is the driver you are using, I have a 19160 and had the exact same problem, the driver built into windows XP is horrid, goto adaptecs web site a DL the newest driver on the web site and it will fix you right up.

If I try to run the Nero benchmark/tests, XP bluescreens and dumps on me.

Machine is rock-solid aside from that..

Win2k is looking better every minute. :|

maybe you already did this but have you made sure the 2940 is not sharing an irq with any other devices?

Is ASPI installed AND working?

Use the Adaptec Aspi check utility to find out!

Adaptec has no drivers available for the 2940. Windows has the drivers built in.

Make sure the 2940 is NOT sharing an IRQ with a NIC. Disregard ACPI, use a non bootable floppy (to halt the system during bootup) and look at the assignment screen.

Cheers!

Yes, ASPI is installed and working, according to ASPICHK.EXE.

I rebooted and noticed the Promise U66 controller was sharing the same IRQ and the Adpatec, si I removed the Promise card and all was good, rebooted, rechecked, no sharing, got into XP, same problem.. Dammit.

Thanks for the response anyway. As much as I hate taking the time, I will probably be going back to Win2k, XP just isn't worth it to me.
