How many times can I activate my Windows XP on the same computer?

I activated before but since then have had to re-install Windows 2000 Pro. because of a hard disk error. I have, however, not applied the XP upgrade yet. If I do will activation proceed smoothly and if so how many times can I do this provided I don't change the hardware configuration too much?
 
I don't remember any mention of a limit....BUT....I do recall something about 90 days between activations so you might need to check that.

Additionally....Microsoft have changed there activation protection with the release of SP1 that is tighter on security regarding users installing on more than one pc.

retail - unlimited times on the same computer.
oem (on compaq pc) - no need to do activation.
oem (on ibm pc) - no need to do activation, no recovery cd provided.
pirate/hacked - no need to do activation too.
