XP activation, can't find answer

The screen on my older Sony laptop broke. Bought the identical model laptop on Ebay for cheap (no OS installed/no software) to transfer the screen. Was wondering if I used my restore discs on the ebay laptop (with the ebay laptop's xp key - not my original), would this cause issues as far as activation is concerned? I'm assuming that the restore discs do not have any unique indentifier and that when I restore the ebay laptop and enter its xp key (which was originally preactivated by the manufacturer), I shouldn't have any issues at all and it will have no effect on the activation of my original laptop?
 
I have not restored a Sony laptop, but on Dell and HP/Compaq laptops, when you restore, you never have to enter the XP key. It recognizes the OEM (by looking at the BIOS), and just goes merrily on its way. And if the laptop from Ebay came originally from Sony with XP preinstalled (as indicated by the sticker on the bottom), then you are not only good to go, you are 100% legal as well.
