XP-90. Yikes.

Installed this on my A64 3000+ which is overclocked. Yikes. It cools like no other, 44C under heavy heavy load and thats with a 400mhz overclock from 2.0 to 2.4!

Heavy load used to be 56C. This thing is great.

It gets my stamp of approval. Not that my stamp of approval is worth anything.

your stamp might be useful to others seeking opinions 😛

What was the cooling setup you had before - also what thermal goop did you use, and are using now?

What fan are you using?

Yeah i heard this thing is as good as any cheap water cooling system, but most of the times it does not fit on the motherboards because of its size. If you have it install you are a winner. Enjoy.

The XP-90 fits pretty much every motherboard, the XP-120 is the big one with compatability issues.
What fan are you using on the XP-90, and did you get 56C load with the retail hsf?

I'm thinking of getting myself an XP-90 soon enough (it should perform better than my Gigabyte 3D Cooler Pro from what I understand).

Would this be an okay fan to mount to an XP-90? I realise it's a fairly average fan, but it pushes 56CFM @ 35dBa... not too bad I think! Also, a 90mm fan would mount okay to an XP-90 right? Or does it only fit 80mm and 92mm fans?

NO! DO NOT GET THERMALTAKE.

GOodness, people need to seach the forums more often. Get a Panaflo 12M or H, if that is too loud (probably 10x quiter than the thermaltake) then get a fan controller and turn it down.

DO NOT GET THERMALTAKE.

Word. Also the XP-120 is the one that is better than many cheapo water coolders. The XP-90 is about as goods as the Zalman 7000A. The difference is that zalman probabbly works better at the quiet setting. However the Thermalright lets you put a different fan in there if you want to "go crazy" and loud.

Okay then...

I don't doubt that the Panaflo's are far superior fans, but the only problem with living in SA is that you don't get them here... I can Vantec, Thermaltake and Coolermaster fans easily enough but no Panaflo's. 🙁

I was looking at getting a Vantec 92mm Tornado, but it generates an insane amount of noise! Besides Panaflo's, are there any other 92mm fans that push a decent amount of air without producing too much noise?

I use Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu and my temps are 28 - 30 degrees C idle and never goes beyond 44 degrees C on load, according to Asus Probe. I'm a happy man. 🙂

You can use a fan controller with the Vantec Tornado, as I do. I went from 66C using stock HSF/thermal pad down to 57C heavy load when I went with the cooling in my sig, with the Tornado full blast & extremely loud. But the controller is nice for when I'm not doing heavy stuff, it'll take the Tornado down to a normal whir.

BTW both those temps were from Speedfan, BIOS 1.3. I doubt they are accurate by themselves (I don't think 1.3 fixed the temp issue yet) but useful as a comparison.

Can you get an Enermax fan? Those have a neat little variable resister. They are are pretty quiet for most people on low rpms. And slightly unmanageable when on full blast.

Hi,

Im coming from the stock HSF, so obviously this was a big difference. Im using the panafalo (spelling) fan because Jab-tech had a combo order. The fan was like $4 with the HS, instead of $10 seperately or something like that.

It fits my MSI k8N neo-fsr, though Ive heard the XP-90 fits most mobos, the XP-120 however does not.

using arctic silver 3.

Its great to touch the heatsink and feel it at a nice warm temp during games rather than a burning temp like the stock HSF gave.

Hey guys

Just a quick question...

How good is the thermal paste that comes with the XP-90? I should be getting myself one within the next few days, and just wanted to find out if I should buy a tube of shin etsu or AS5 (or ceramique) with it?

Also, do 90mm fans fit on the XP-90 (sorry if this sounds like a n00b type question...)?

A bit off topic but do you have to replace Arctic Silver 5 every so often?
And also given the choice between 3 pin and 4 pin for the fan...which one do you want?

i hope that is not true. i thought the xp120 and xp90 performance were pretty close

That is not true. The XP-90 is as good as cheap water cooling and the XP-120 is better. Look for reviews on silentpcreview.com.

I purchased the Thermaltake Silent Cat II and i must say i'm somewhat disappointed. At first it seemed really loud, but then leveled off and is a tad quiter than the stock.

From what i've heard it's suppose to be 21dba and quiter than the panoflo fan so i dunno. it's crazy, i dont know what to do. I might purchase a panoflo at sometime and see what happens, but i'm not very happy at the moment.

Can someone record the noise of a panoflo so i can hea rit? this would help me out alot since it would give me some reference.

I ahve the XP-90, with a 92mm SilenX fan that runs at about 1600 RPM.

Great combo. Keeps my 3.0E Prescott at 34-35c Idle, and about 45-47c at load.

Super quiet too!:|😀

Yeah I have looked around, and looks like if xp-120 keeps something at 50, xp-90 will probably do 52-53, and zalman 7000 will probably do 54-55. All very good hsf's though.

Edit: Remember, just estimations on my part, dont bite my head off please, and feel free to correct me.
