3Ghz 478-pin P4 (forgot the damn codename), not overclocked, in a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case.

Idle CPU temp: 96F/36C
Case temp: 102F/39F

Full CPU Load: 111F/44C
Case temp: 111F/44C

Dang. Still, it's quite an improvement for the CPU

It made no difference.

I wonder if the position of the case is the issue... I have it under the desk, next to the left leg/wall. So the case is tightly boxed in on two sides, the left and back. Would that make a difference?

Run CPU-Z to get the correct core code name. My money says it's a Northwood.

Moving your case forward a little to let the exhaust out may help your temps. I would still say that you mixed up your case and CPU temps. Unless you have a VERY hot northbridge, hot VGA card(s), and a duct/wind tunnel going straight to your CPU, then your case wont be higher than your CPU.

One other thing to consider: I have seen more than a few people make the mistake of putting an intake fan at the back of the case, just under the power supply. This ends up pulling in some of the hot air that was just exhausted out the back of the PSU. Make sure you don't have it set up like this!

i have similar results (not a huge change). This is probably because the stock cooling wasn't that hot to begin with. I think you will see a major change if you were hitting like 60C with stock.

See, one of the things I liked about the Antec P180 and Lian Li is that they put the power supply at the bottom of the case, far from everything else. Unfortunately there were no P180s at the computer fair, and the one LL they had was $175, which was a bit off-putting.

I may have to get a temperature probe. But there is definite heat. The left side of the desk is warm.

Same thing with my computer, AsusProbe doesn't report any temp correctly. I believe theres almost a 5c error with the temps. Quite a bit.
