XP-90 Install questions.

How tight should the screws be when you attach the AMD retention bracket to the motherboard? I usually tighted the mobo screws just snug and then 1/8 turn, but the retention bracket will have alot more force on the screws so I wonder if they should be tighter?

Also, when you install the heatsink, do you just hook the clips on one side and then press down on the other side to attach those clips or do you need to sort of push up on the hooked side at the same time pushing down on the unhooked side to avoid undue stress on the cpu? I don't know if what I describe is even possible but I don't want to break the cpu.

Thanks,
BGC

When I installed mine on my Abit AN8 Ultra board I tightened the screws all the way. You don't want that bracket to loosen up on you or will screw up the connection between the HS and chip.

As for the install of the HS, the directions say to hook one side then the other but when I tried it I didn't have enough clearance from the HS and the chip to allow the HS to fall flat on the chip. So what I did was just put the HS right on the chip and pressed down on the hooks latching all 4 of them at once. Not sure if that sounded right or not.

I would descibe it for you, but I think the pdf is easier. Oh well here it goes: Turn the screws snug and then 1/8th like you said on the bracket. Hook the sides opposite the heatpipes first and use for leverage. Push the HS down w/ hand & hold firm...Use a flathead screwdriver thats too large to fit through these holes> http://img361.imageshack.us/my.php?image=xp903xh.png and push down gently till the clip can enter the latch on the bracket... then pry the clip so that it enters the latch hole and your done. G-Luck 🙂 *EDIT* zoom on the pic to see better.

You very well may need to attach the 2 clips with the heatsink at an angle on the chip!
Then when you fin aslly attach the other 2 clips the heatsink will be flush/flat on the chip making excellent contact!!
