xp 64bit versus xp pro

is it worth my effort to install xp 64 bit or should i just stick with basic xp pro?

XP 64-bit is still in beta (alpha?) stages. There are a limited number of drivers available for it. You can install it along side XP 32-bit for experimental purposes, but XP 32-bit should be your primary OS.
