Is the 64-bit version of windows stable and compatible enough to use as the only o/s on a system?

No, since it is still in beta. In addition to that, there are very few drivers and such availabe, making using the OS a problem. In any event, it will be just as stable as Windows XP for 32-bit platforms, which is very stable.

If your hardware is supported, go for it. Just don't rely on it for really important stuff. Why sign up to be a tester though, if you don't plan on testing?

I have it and the main problem is driver availablity. I have not ran into any stability problems yet, but it is a beta OS.

Any known 64 bit drivers for the 3Com LAN or the Creative Modems.
Abit-Max3 but the drivers with the board are 32-Bit & nonfunctional with the Microsoft XP-64 OpSys.
Guess I'll have to go Dual, with the standard XP as the primary in order to do anything.

Microsoft is forcing the 2nd Tier manufacturers to get their drivers out, carrot on a stick.
