XP 64-bit

I currently have XP Pro SP2, but through school I picked up a copy of XP Pro and XP 64-bit for $20.00. Is 64-bit worth the upgrade, that is will FEAR and other games run fine? How well does the emulator mode work (I think I heard about that)? Does SLI work well with 64-bit drivers available?

BTW I do have a 64-bit CPU a 3800X2.

I find 64 bit windows to be unusable for my purposes. A lot of games I play did not run, and driver support was lacking. This was 6 months ago though.

Personally, I see no reason to use 64bit windows at this time.

Unless you absolutely need to run applicatins which will benefit from having more RAM than XP 32bit's theoretical limit, I see no reason for you to upgrade to XP-64, the least of which is gaming.

I haven't had any major problems with software compatibility that I can think of (and games run fine), but the situation with drivers (or more accurately, the lack thereof) is enough to drive anyone mad. Unless you are absolutely 100% sure that you can locate x64 drivers for every single piece of hardware in or attached to your computer, don't bother.

Since as far as I know there's yet to be any mainstream 64 bit app that gets real performance gains, that pretty much makes the hassle not worth it for most people. I didn't even install it until I sold my HDTV tuner (which doesn't have 64 bit drivers and probably never will), and now whenever I buy a new one I have to make sure it's one that does have 64 bit drivers. With Vista coming out though and x64 hopefully becoming somewhat more mainstream, I hope more hardware manufacturers will provide support.
