XP 6 second delay when clicking folders

When I click on any folder in Windows Explorer, it takes about 6 seconds before the contents are displayed. I've run all the anti-spyware, and root-kit detection apps, and nothing turns up. I uninstalled all the apps I had installed recently (prior to the issue) but no luck. Any ideas what this could be? I'm just about at my last resort - re-installing XP.

Download XP Powertoys from MS and set your menu speed to high.

Also, when in Exporer, click on Tools, Folder options, View. and uncheck Launch folder windows in a new process.
