I have an Abit KD7-RAID board. I've been running a 1700+ for some time now running at internal clock of 1.4 Ghz. I've been thinking of getting a 3000 XP (socket 462 of course). It runs faster (about 2.1 Ghz) and has double the L1 and L2 cache. I was curious if you guys know if there would be any improvement if I were to do this. I use my computer primarly for DVD encoding, DVD riping etc.. esp with nero. I want to make this process go a little faster. Also on another note would there be any increase if I were to update my ram to PC3200 rather then 2100.

Thank you

Just a little system Specs.

There would be a definite improvement over the 1700. There are 2 forms of the 3000. One is 333fsb. The other is 400fsb. The cost on both is close to $100.00. You would also see an improvement going to pc3200 memory.

BUT!!!!

The cost of this upgrade is JUST NOT WORTH IT!!!! It will cost you just a little bit more to upgrade to Socket 939. The Amd prices on Socket 939 have come drastically down. You can pick up an AGP Socket 939 motherboard for around $60.00. Processor around $75

If you want to go Socket 754 you probably can get a Sempron 3100 plus an AGP motherboard for LESS than the cost of an Athlon 3000 xp.

Do some research on these boards.

just my 2c,
