XP, 2K and yet another java problem :-(

My company just moved me to an XP machine. You know, the ones with no native jvm! Well I hit some sites that require jvm. So I grabbed the Sun 1.4.1 version, installed it and enable the plugin via tools-internet opitons-advanced options. Now my box gets slower and slower with each site I hit that requires the java plug-in; to the point that nothing is useable. Finally, I have to reboot to "clean it out" and regain systems functionality.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Can I move the java files from my 2K box to the XP box?

Are there any other iterations of the jvm plug-in that work better?
