xp 2600+ vs 2700+

I was wondering if anyone knows how much of a performance decrease the 2700 has over the 2600 if any? I have the option of keeping my FIC mobo with with 2700 or getting the 2600 with a shuttle nforce2 which would save me 40 dollars. Do you think there would be much of a difference or anyone know of a benchmark comparison. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

The 2700+ will be faster (by a little) than any of the 2600+'s (Tbredb 266/333 or Barton) out the box. If the 2600+ is a barton core, you will most likely be able to overclock it, and with its 512kb of cache it will performe better than a 2700+ even if that to is overclocked.

The 2700+ has a significantly higher actual clockspeed than the 2600+ barton chip. Very likely to completely offset the performance boost for math that the extra 256k of cache will provide. However, I do have a locked 2600+ Retail I just got from Fry's (the same 2600+ & Shuttle AN35N mobo I think you are considering, but I put the chip in an Epox 8RDA+ instead), and it runs great at 11.5x200fsb. So assuming you are overclocking, the 2600+ is probably a better choice. If not overclocking, perhaps the 2700+ would be more effective.
