XP 2600+ or Barton 2500+ Which is better?

I'm lookin to upgrade and both these chips look good but which is better. Although the XP is technically faster isn't the Barton supposed to be a better chip. Has it got better overclocking potential? Any info would help thanx

The Barton is superior because it has more L2 cache and is designed to run on faster memory bus speeds, increasing thruput. Raw clock speeds don't tell the whole story anymore.

The 2600+ actually has the higher clock speed: 2.08 GHz. The 2500+ only runs at 1.83 GHz, however it has twice the onboard cache (512) of the 2600+.

Depends what you're looking for. Planning to run stock speeds or overclock?

Best stable setups for my XP2500+ were 215 X 10.5 or 210 X 11. Some have done much better, but no joy for me.

I replaced it with a $70 (Excaliber) DLT3C XP1700+ that I've run stable at 226 X 11. It's currently running 222 X 11 because I can run 2/2/2/5 timings at 222 FSB.

Hope this helps!

if your not overclocking, amd's pr rating rating is right, the 2600 is faster then the 2500 at the defualt clocks. but overclocking they both can go to aobut the same mhz max, but the 2500 would have 512k of cache giving it a pretty big performance increase.

The week 033 Barty chip I got today is a poor overclocker.

Wont run 220 DC like my 2600+ does.

I'm stickn the Barton into my KX7 instead .. it does 189.

If your not OC'n , get the Barty

and ,,, if your OCn ,,, let the chips fall in your favor,,, its really luck sometimes

UPDATE:

(from previous post)

The barty does quite well in my KX7-333 !

Although it couldn't handle 220fsb in NF7-s ,, the 189.9 my KX7-333 supplies,,,compliments it quite well

I ran P95 all nite at 11 x 189.9 = 2080 error free at 1.75v

Today I bumped it up to 12.5 but need to much voltage for P95.

Now testing 12 x 189.9 = 2280 at 1.8v

not too bad,,, sorry I claimed it was a poor OC'r

it's now a XP3400+ 😛

if you are going to oc then the barton will be better.
200x11 is good but with double the cache.

and if you are not then the 2600 will be better but barely.
2.0 vs. 1.83ghz with double the cache they are real close but the rating system is right.
