Ok, my 2600+ 333FSB runs at 2.08, but on pricewatch etc it shows some listed as 2.133... why are some one speed and some the other? Different cores? Thanks!

Also, how many watts of heat is this processor supposed to be putting out? It is running pretty hot in my little Antec Aria case.

There are now FOUR flavors of the Athlon XP 2600+ for Desktops:

Model 8 AMD XP 2600+ 266FSB with 256K L2 @ 2133MHz (Thoroughbred "B")
Model 8 AMD XP 2600+ 333FSB with 256K L2 @ 2083MHz (Thoroughbred "B")
Model 10 AMD XP 2600+ 266FSB with 256K L2 @ 2133MHz (Thorton)
Model 10 AMD XP 2600+ 333FSB with 512K L2 @ 1916MHz (Barton)

The top one is the original XP 2600+ @ 2133MHz which is the maximum CPU that many 266FSB mainboards "officially" support (e.g. KT266/A, KM266, KT333, SIS735, SIS745). The latest is the 2600+ based on the Thorton core @ 2133MHz.

Never heard of a 2600+ Thorton?? 2400+ is the highest Thorton available according to AMD's processor documentation on Model 10 with 256KB L2 Cache (Thorton). But I know for a fact that 2600+ Thortons exist, because I currently have 30 of them. Want to buy one? lol!

Here is a close-up of the OPN:

AXDC2600DKV3C

I'm actually pissed because I specifically ordered the T-Bred ("AXDA") but apparently they shipped these by mistake.

If I told you, I would have to send a team of commandos to snatch you out of your home as you sleep and transport you to Gitmo for deprogramming. :Q

What do you mean 'how did you get 30'? You find a supplier of AMD processors and say "I want to buy 30 of these". They say "Ok". Shortly thereafter, the UPS man delivers them.

There is this small matter of how I'm going to be paying for them, but that's just a formality, really. :p
...and how much did they cost?
With any luck, less than I sell them for. ;)

Believe me, there is not a significant discount under the going price at this quantity. If you're buying 1,000 pieces, maybe; 10,000 pieces, definitely. But 30, no.

Thanks very much for the reply outlining the many different processors!

So it seems I have a Thoroughbred B... how does that compare to the Thorton or Barton...? More or less overclockable? What was improved/changed on the newer ones?

Thanks again!

the thourobred core has 256 l l2 cach and the barton has 512k l2 cach. the barton is a stronger chip mhz for mhz due to the increases l2 cach. i however have a thourobred b 1700+ that will do 2.3 ghz on air stable.
bartons are great overclockers.
