xp 2600+ @ 2.38..am I limited by my motherboard?

Chunkee

Lifer
I have an atmax2 with pc3200 and xp 2600+ (333); i have it oc'd to 2.38...I am at the default multiplier, but cannot seem to get above 190 FSB with stabilty...I am thinking it is the KT400 mb limitation.

Also, I cannot seem to run the memory at fast or turbo, only normal and I know i have more room on the memory. I have upped the voltage to 2.75 on memory and 1.775 on the cpu...it is rock stable at 2.38 and running 44c on the slk800

has the cpu reached its limit or is it the motherboard....

My sandra memory bandwith scores are lower than a kt333 with 3200 (according the sandras comparison)

thanks

JC

That is probably the limit on that CPU. I guess you multi is locked with the KT400. You should be getting good performance out of it at that point though. If you were the unlock the chip physically or get a NF2 board, you could probably push it at a lower multi and break 200fsb. If you are stable at 190x12.5, Idon't think it would be worth spending extra cash just to get a few mhz of FSB, when it is already screaming.

I think it's a nice overclock considering the chipset.

i can change the multiplier on it, i have lowered it a bit and found still would not go above 190, is there any way to make the memory run faster....not sure about the 5:2:1 4:2:1 3:2:1 ratio function...

JC

You are probably best to leave the CPU:mem at 1:1, if you have a high quality ram though, you may be able to relax the timings, and go to a 4:5 ratio which would put you at about ddr456. So if you cheap ram don' t even bother, if you want and the ratio is available, you might try and be prepared to clear CMOS and start over if you are unable to post. Do you have a chipset voltage adjust in your bios. If you do, then increasing by .1v might help you to get a little higher FSB. If not you probably have it tweaked as it's gonna get.

thanks for the tips, but on this board i dont have 1:1 ratio

i am running it at 5:2:1 right now...at the post it says the memory is running at ddr333, but I am at 190fsb...does not seem right or does it?

JC

2.4ghz is very near the high-end of t-bred overclocking *on air*so the CPU has probably topped out. The 190fsb limit is most likely due to the lack of AGP/PCI lock resulting in one of your components not liking the extra juice.

You have reached the limit of the KT400. My Asus A7V8X-X (KT400) can only reach 185mhz FSB. I have my XP 2400+ running at 12 x 180 (2.16Ghz) on default voltage 1.65.
