I have read that the mobile xp's are often reported as unknown in Windows, but the clock is only 1GHZ. In the bios, I raised the FSB from 166 to 200 and that made it clock in at 1.2GHZ. The clock speed is supposed to be 1.8GHZ with a 266MHZ FSB correct?

Here is my Everest CPU report w/ the FSB at 200:

CPU Properties:
CPU Type AMD Athlon XP-A, 1200 MHz (6 x 200)
CPU Alias Barton
CPU Stepping A2
Instruction Set x86, MMX, 3DNow!, SSE
L1 Code Cache 64 KB
L1 Data Cache 64 KB
L2 Cache 512 KB (On-Die, Full-Speed)

CPU Physical Info:
Package Type 453 Pin PGA
Package Size 4.95 cm x 4.95 cm
Transistors 54.3 million
Process Technology 6Mi, 0.13 um, CMOS, Cu
Die Size 101 mm2
Core Voltage 1.65 V
I/O Voltage 1.6 V
Typical Power 53.7 - 60.4 W (depending on clock speed)
Maximum Power 68.3 - 76.8 W (depending on clock speed)

CPU Manufacturer:
Company Name Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Product Information http://www.amd.com/us-en/Proce...tion/0,,30_118,00.html

CPU Utilization:
CPU #1 0 %

The BIOS doesn't have an option for an FSB of 266; it maxes out at 250. The jumper settings are correct, and the mobo is the Soltek SL-75FRN2. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Mobiles are usually detected below their rated speeds (like at 600MHz, for me). Stock I think is around 1.8GHz with that 133MHz FSB (266 DDR) you mentioned, but you may as well overclock it.

since your bios detects it as unknown (windows draws from this fact) it defaults it to a 6x multiplier. just change the mult in bios (hopefully, if you have a good board)

Yup, unless you can find a way to change the multiplier either in the BIOS or by jumpers, you're stuck with an underperforming chip. :(

yah, if you want to run the chip at stock speeds, move the multiplier up to 11x, and the fsb to 166...

all boards unless you set the multilier with run a mobile at 6x, if your board cant change that your in a bit of difficulty.
even then windows may report it as an unknown CPU not a big deal.

it looks like your board supports changing the multiplier in bios try 11 or 10 @ 200FSB and work your way up to whatever is stable.

becareful about what you mean here: 266 is actually 133 x 2, for DDR266 = PC2100. your bios can support up to 250, but that's actually 250 x 2 = 500 for DDR500 = PC4200(?).

your current setting right now, of 6 x 200 = 1200 is for 200 x 2 = DDR400 = PC3200.

also, if you REELLY want to run you cpu stock speed, you'd have to do 13.6 x 133 = 1800 @ DDR266

You're also running the vcore @ 1.65v. That's the spec for a desktop, but as your's is a mobile it should prolly be 1.45v (b4 any OCing). Mine's OC'd (see rig in sig) but it's only at 1.55v

Not a big deal, won't hurt anything. Just run a lilltle hotter than need be.
