XP 2400+ @333 FSB

How safe is it to run my XP 2400+ with a 333mhz FSB? My ram is PC3200 so there's no probelm there. I jsut don't want to burn out my CPU. Will it run very much hotter, or is the added the speed really going to make that much of a difference?

You may need to drop the multiplier from the default when raising the fsb to 166, but other than that you should be fine - assuming your equipment supports it properly.

yeah I can easily drop the multiplyer, while 166x15 would be a nice overclock especially with the stock HSF, I don't want to push my luck with this new CPU.

slowly push your luck 😉

12.5x166 should be okay at stock voltage. Thats what mine does anyway. I'd start there and work your way up. If you have to even ask about it...then you probably aren't prepared to take the chip straight to 15x166 🙂

The question is: how high can you adjust the mulitiplier after setting the FSB to 166 - at the default voltage? That's my limiter, I go as high as I can without overvolting the chip.

As an update, I upped the FSB to 166 and dropped the multiplyer to 12 giving the same amount of mhz I had before (2g's). So far the temps are about the same maybe 1 or 2 degrees higher. I'm kind of hesitant to take the CPU any higher on account of the sumemr heat, even though I have adequate AC. Oh yes I'm also using an Epox 8RDA+ and Crucial PC3200 ram which I have at the "Optimal" setting to give it a higher CAS rating than it has, everything seems to be fine.
