For some reason, my XP 2100+ is showing up as an 835 MHz both according to Windows and when it boots up. I'm using an Asus motherboard with Nforce 2 chipset. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Make sure the FSB is set to 133MHz in the BIOS.

Also, make sure you didn't accidentally put in your XP835+.

Worst. Underclock. EVAR.

Wouldn't that be closer to a XP1000+??? ;)

But yah, looks like your FSB setting is messed up. I would flash your BIOS to one of the 1002.XXX versions and go from there. What brand of RAM are you using and whats its rated speed. The SPD programming on the dimm may be messing with the BIOS.

did you unlock the lower multipliers? Mine does the same thing whenever I have the vcore set to default in the bios since i unlocked the lower multipliers. Manually configuring the vcore in the bios corrects it for me.

You may also check the jumper setting on the mobo, I had trouble of this for some time b4 b/c I was using my old mobo.

Hrmm. you have a 2100+ right? I thought the lower multis were available by default on the 2100+. What FSB are you running btw? I might have to check this out, as my board + 9700pro refuses to do 200mhz FSB (or over 195 for that matter), which tells me AGP bus is gettin all crazy on me.

Yeah, I unlocked the lower multipliers, so setting it through the BIOs does work, but I feel like setting that and my FSB up higher gives me more blue screens, even though I'm fairly sure my hardware could handle it.
By the way, I've got 2 sticks of Geil DDR RAM.

Supposedly they are but as it turns out you actually have to connect the 5th L3 bridge to get access to the lower multipliers. Not sure if this is like this on all nforce2 boards but that is how it works with the msi K7N2-L. If you try to set one of the lower multis without connecting the 5th L3 bridge the multipliers are doubled. I'm running 200mhz FSB which is the max for this board. I was unlucky and got one of the week 1 2100+ tbreds. Best it will do is 2.1 gig after that it starts getting shaky no matter how much voltage i put on it. My agp and pci bus are locked on this board at 66/33. Isn't the A7N8x the same?

Maybe that's what we should do! See who can underclock the most!

(yeah, I know that was lame :| )

This is a problem with some BIOSes for the A7N8X... check the MB forum for the A7N8X thread.
