I have been having some strange issues with my system, and I'm at a loss as to what is wrong. Here are the specs.
T-bred B, model AXDA2100DUT3C and stepping AIUHB0302UPCW running @ 2068mhz (166x12.5@1.70V). The processor will run @ 2167mhz same voltage fine, but i clocked it down to see if that had any effect on my problem.
Epox 8DRA+ with bios dated 1/29/03.
512 megs of DDR2100 (Crucial and a generic) both at 6-2-2-2.5 @ 166mhz
GF4 ti4200 @ stock speeds
IBM 40gig ATA100 7200prm HD
Hi-val (aka Lite-on) 48x16x48 cdrw
Mit floppy
350 watt PS generic
WinXP service pack1
Nvidia 2.03 drivers
I have a global win heatsink with an 80mm fan taht came wiht it, generic 80mm case fan, Vantec 60mm stealth exhaust fan, and an Evermax(i believe) 80 mm temp sensing fan in the side window.
I seem to be getting some strange errors, random lockups when running Folding @home and other programs and I cant seemt o figure out why. I have run Memtest86 several times and the ram checks out fine. According to the Epox USDM, the cpu is running @ 50C under 100% load, system is running @ 21C. V-core seems to flux between 1.696-1.71V, 5V reads 4.892V and 12 volt is 12.16V. The cpu seems to run fine, played all the usual games with no lockups or errors, only seem to get them when doing normal internet use etc etc. They seems to have gotten a little better, but I was online this morning and the computer was running fine then randomly turned off and didnt want to reboot for about a minute or so. I am leaning toward a PS problem, but the voltage seems to be ok? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Also, I ran the ram at the normal 133mhz speeds and it didnt seem to make a difference, so I have ruled that out for now.
Thanks,
Josh

hi Josh,

just for clarification, do you get these random lockups as well when your cpu is running at 2167 MHz? or only now that you have clocked it down to 2068 MHz are you starting to get these random errors.

also, try out Prime95 and see if you can pass that or not.

good luck :)

agreed... run prime95 for a while... (at least 6 hours).... and also... your temps aren't that bad at all.... but for it running at 2167 it does seem a little high.... i'm running 2350 and it's only 45C at full load...

;) When ever troubleshooting you should always default back to default speeds just to rule out instability from o/c'ing. You should also drop your RAM timings to the slowest / highest values, there is only a 2%ish boost anyway. See if your system is stable at this speed and take it from there, if it isn't it is most likely the PSU or RAM so try unplugging unecessary things (to reduce power consumption) and then for the RAM try installing in diff slots (1 & 3 often best) and only running 1 stick at a time. If you are o/c'ing with gaming in mind then try the gfx card first as this is where most of the gains lie anyway.

Metro,
I was getting them @2167mhz as well, hence tryin the slight drop in clock speed. The system has been running @ 100% CPU load since I first posted, wiht no lockups, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

AnAustin, I have tried the ram at the slower speeds, and run Memtest several times at both stock and the oc/ed speeds with no errors. As for the ram, I am going to try 1 stick and see what happens, but as far as the slots go I'm limited to using the two I am using now as to keep the dual channel mode active.

Just wanted to say that I picked up a new PS, KingWin 350W with dual 80mm temp controlled fans. I have been running Prime95 since 4:30(almost 5 hrs along with doing basic internet work) with no lockups. I also ran 3dmark 2001 with no problems. I think its time to try to up the clock speed:-D...
