xp 2000 to xp 2400 or 512mb to 1 gig?

It depends. It's not that simple and clear-cut but rather depends on if you ever use >512MB ram. Progs that push your ram limit include Photoshop, BF1942, and Simcity 4. The processor upgrade fetches you 333MHz, which is a bit, but not too much.

Not sure but maybe your board lets you overclock. And it may support better cpus than the 2400+.
