I just saw the LA times ad this morning and went to the Fry's in Fountain Valley and picked up the combo for $199. Also picked up the thermal lake volcano 6 fan for 15 bux.

This deal was posted weeks ago but wasn't available in my local Fry's.

I got in on this deal in Phoenix. They warranty the chip for a year. I bought the same cooler but will scrape off the wax and use Artic Silver III. There is a thread here to get it for 6.99 (free shipping)and it came in a couple days.

The outpost deal comes with boxed cpu, whereas the fry's deal comes with oem cpu (no heatsink). The Fountain Valley Fry's is located near Euclid, an exit down from Brookhurst.

i picked mine up ! just got back, it comes with brand new motherboard and really is the 8kha+ and brand new oem cpu, i also bought a volcano 6cu as the heatsink for my cpu...anyone know if this is good enough for my system to run stable(im not going to OC)?


by the way, the price is amazingly cheap...what's the catch?

Exsile, The Gainward golden sample GF3 TI200 is a very over-clockable video card.
I bumped the FSB a hair to run at athlon xp1900+ speed.
Video card was ran at 240/530...all and all a decent combo.

And Lapchern, I also picked up the volcano 6 with this combo...is workin fine.
I have it slightly overclocked and am using the the thermal pad that was on the heatsink..no arctic silver..... and no heating problems so far just 2 case fans.

Great deal, wish we had a Frys type store in Denver. All we have are CC and BB and just a very few small pc shops that charge up the ass for componets.

Having a store like that where i can go in and get a MOBO, CPU would be really cool.

too bad I bought my set for $220 at buena park computer show. It wasnt even a 1800, but a 1600 chip.
