AMD came out with the the Rev-B TBred because speeds on the Rev-A weren't scaling much higher than the Palominos. The Rev A TBreds from a design standpoint won't scale as high as Rev-Bs and are harder to cool. Though AMD (in theory) has started making 1800+ Rev-B's (since yesterday), it's extremely unlikey you'd get one from NewEgg today. The 1700+ OEM (AXDA1700DLT3C) on their site now is most definately a Rev A. Their 2200+ OEM (AXDA2200DKV3C) is most definately a Rev A. Without the OPN you can't be 100% sure for the boxed retailed processors, but you're probably more likely to get hit by lightning than you are to get a Rev B 1800+ from NewEgg now.

Just a few random observations...

No MSI motherboards I have that are older than KT333 or KM266 will even run a T'Bred XP1700 stable even with indication (and BIOS) of support, even at stock speed AFTER increasing Vcore. Same motherboards will run Palominos o'c past 1.8GHz rock-solid.

T'Breds generate, radiate less heat, but DO NOT, themselves, run cooler. The die shrink is greater than the reduction in heat generation, so the same cooling system will not cool the core as effectively.

My experience with o'c T'Bred A steppings is that they overclock slightly LOWER/LESS than late-stepping Palominos. It's pretty close though, could depend on the particular samples you receive. For anyone with a new(er) motherboard and a good copper-bottomed cooler I'd recommend the T-Bred simply because it's gentler on the motherboard's power supply and the heat production is reduced, but I can't recommend an "A" stepping for someone looking for a higher overclock than they're getting with a Palomino. IMHO, if you have a Palomino already you'd be better off spending a bit more $ and going with a "B" stepping.

I'm seriously considering going with an Intel system this time around just for a cooler, quieter system that uses less power. Plus, VIA 4-in-1 drivers back in the KT133/A and KT266/A days scared me away from those dudes FOR LIFE.

:D :D Good one.

BTW nForce2 doesn't have VIA's 4-1 and it's the only thing that's worth getting now. KT-400A won't be around for at least a couple of months.

Looks like L00PY was right: Even though they shipped, T-Bred B's won't be up for sale this week and probably not even the week before X-mas.

What to do, what to do... I hope they at least show up in the last week of 2002.
