XP 1800+ Temps

My T-Bred 1800+ has the stock heatsink and fan on it from AMD. It runs about 50 degrees C usually. Is this too high and whats ideal? Thanks

You're well within limits and that's a completely normal temp.

Technically AMD says the threshold is about 85 or so, so don't get concerned over the folks here that are hardcore about their cooling and want their chips 40 and under. 😉

Noway - I believe its 94C 😛 Not to be critical though...

Moosey - Are you using a thermal compound ( paste ) or the thermal pad that came with your CPU?

If so, scrape that off, buy some Artic Silver and you should be in for a good 5-7C temp drop...

Any case fans? Good Ventilation is key.

But again, you could run 65C, if it's stable. You aren't hurting anything.

However, for comparison my 1700+ is clocked @ 2.4ghz and runs @ 48c loaded...

Granted it's not the retail hsf...

🙂

That temp is fine. Just remember to dust the thing out every now and then and you shouldn't have any problems with the CPU.
