Maybe, maybe not. You have to try it yourself and see... as far as the fan goes... as long as you leave the voltage at stock, the heatsink/fan should do a good enough job... since the same heatsink/fan is used for all of the processors in that family.

If you can provide the stepping information from your CPU, we can give you a better idea of what's possible. 1.6 isn't far fetched for an XP1800 t-bred... but certain steppings will do it easier, while running cooler. So don't go upgrading your cooling before you're sure you need to. If the time comes where you need to upgrade your cooling, you'll probably be better off getting a whole new processor... can't beat the XP2500 WITH a fairly decent heatsink/fan for $83 shipped from newegg.com.

Usually I here people OC 1800+ TB to about 2 GHz even with a 200MHz FSB. I would definately switch out the stock one with an after market one if you are gonna OC.

I'm talking about the stepping on the CPU itself... for example, mine is...

The stepping on the CPU itself is infinitely more useful in determining how well it will overclock than just what model it is.

No rush... just come back when you have it and someone will be able to tell you how well it should overclock.

I think even a Palomino 1800 could make it to 1.6 on the stock HSF. It's only 70 MHz ya know.
