Sweet deal (for those of you not in St. Louis since WE don't have a Fry's - no bitterness here, nooooo)

So, who wants to pick me up one and mail it to me? I'm willing to pay by PayPal, BillPoint or Cit2it..... (yeah, like i'll get any responses!)

Later!

great deal, considering the lowest price on pricewatch is ~$138 + shipping. Fry's has a 1 yr warrenty on the cpu vs. the 30 day from most pricewatch stores.

Do you think this is better than a refurbished Epox 8KHA+ with an XP1700+ ?

For those who wish to ogle the Fry's ads, go to www.OCRegister.com, click "Newspaper ads," "Retail," and scroll the list on the left . The Orange County Register and LA Times Fry's ads appear in print on Wed. and Fri. (and Sat. for Register.) The web site may show a day late. Prices effective Fri. to Tue. and Wed. to Thur., so check the dates.

just for some people, this board comes has the latest via kt266a chipset and 4 ddr dimm slots. considering the price of the cpu, it's almost like getting the mobo for half the price

Got it last night. They gave me a BOXED 1800+! Only all they had left were returns. This is the second one I've seen where the bottom of the HSF shows someone didn't know what they were doing - the die was half on the thermal pad/half on bare metal. Can this cause damage?

If you're thinking about this combo, I advise you to research this mobo before buying it. I don't have experience with this Shuttle model, but I took the plunge on another Fry's combo a couple of months ago that included a Shuttle AK12A. I made the mistake of falling for the attractive price without checking out the quality of the board included. After encountering numerous problems, I started to do a little digging, to see if anyone else had the same problems and (with luck) had found any solutions. I found several forums where people were discussing Shuttle mobos, and it was eye-opening. Check out http://www.spacewalker.com/english/faq_e/forum/forum1.html & http://www.spacewalker.com/english/faq_e/forum/forum3.html, as well as the usenet shuttle newsgroup (don't have the exact name, but just search newsgroups for shuttle).

I'm sure some people have good luck with Shuttle. Based on my experience, however, I'll pay a little more next time and get a more reliable mobo.

Where is Fry's located at? I'm on the east coast. I wish I could afford another machine right now. Although my wife would kill me if I could. :)

I have a ak31a with a 1700+ cooled by a pal045.

problems with board...voltage doesn't change, this hurts when you try to up the voltage for overclocking. stock it comes at 1.70 (default says its supposed to be 1.75. if you change the option to make it up to 2.00 its finally shows as 1.75 but couldn't get it to overclock much.

not a bad mobo though
