i believe it's a Taisol hsf

it works.... i wouldn't plan to overclock with it much or expect really cool temps
but again.... it works and i belive it has a thermal pad on it

Thats pretty good (32C at idle) for an Ath XP, especially with a pad. I wonder how much your load temps would drop with some AS3, however.

I was about to ask why You run at lower speed: 1700+ @ 1540
And then I realized that 1700+ isn't running at 1700 :D

It was 43C idle, but then I did the Via HALT instruction hack, and it lowered the idle to 32C, with no performance hit. It just allows the processor to actually be idle.

It's all in there. Links to the software to use in the hack, and full directions. Unfortunately, the pictures seem to not be working at the moment...hopefully it's temporary. Should be able to do the hack without the pics anyway.

Very simple, easy to reverse (although there are no side effects), and nice background info. Lowered my idle temps by 10C, but did nothing for my load temps. But, if I'm not running SETI, it keeps cooler, even in games, since the chip isn't crunching constantly, and those little bitty breaks give the chip time to cool, if only for a bit.
