I have an xp 1700+ with 512mb of crucial ddr pc2100 and started overclocking it and im running it right now at 160 fsb stable which means 1766 mhz and 321 mhz ddr. Im using an alpha pal8045 w/ an 46cfm alpha which was suprisingly quiet. Also using the epox 8kha+.

Are these kind of overclocks for the 1700+ rare?

With the right motherboard and ram, the overclock is not that unusual. It is still a nice overclock though. Just out of curiosity, what kind of temps are you getting?

my temps load are always under 45C, not sure what my idle is. During common usage it stays a little under 40C

Now I'm excited. I have the same setup only I'm getting an XP 1800. I'll let you know but I'm aiming for a fsb of 150 for a clock of 1725 mhz. Can't wait. Difference is that I'm using a 80 cfm delta fan. Loud thing, but I can't heard it when I'm sitting at my desk.

An 80cfm fan seems like it would be overkill and since alphas usually work better when sucking air it out might blow the side of your case off...lol 😛 .

Do you know if theres any difference in quality of a retail 1700+ chip and an oem? this one im using is a retail.

Well I have had better luck with the fan blowing air over the heatsinks to keep it cool, You are the first that I know of that has it blowing air away from the sink, But if it works for you

ya most heatsinks work better when blowing down air, but almost everyone who uses the 8045 i know got better results with sucking the air away.

Very nice overclock indeed.
I also have a xp1700+ and mine hits 158FSB stable with corsair RAM and Dragon Orb 3 and Delta fan.
By the way, anyone knows if 1900+ and 2000+ are as overclockable as this 1700+ or not?

My 1700+ could only reach 10x158. Even with 2.0V I could only get about 1650mhz (12x138), still not that great.

It was an OEM CPU bought last November. Guess I just had bad luck.
