Hi!
I´m planning to build the following system:
ECS K7S5A
Athlon XP 1600+
Crucial 512MB PC2100 DDR RAM (2 x 256MB) (CT3264Z265)

I want to overclock the XP without unlocking it (just FSB overclocking). Is this possible with this motherboard?.
Which HSF is recommended? Also, should I get a PCI IDE controller card in order to avoid future HDD damage? (as someone pointed out that FSB overclocking could cause HDD failure).

Thanks.

Needs to go as fast as my 1962 t bird.

well, wait, its not running rite now, but want my 1.4 to run as fast as my '62 could.. there, thats it..

There is an "overclocking BIOS" available at ocworkbench.com (in the ECS forum). You can possibly get 138mhz or (longshot) 150mhz with this board but that's it. I run my 1.4@1.45 with a 138mhz bus and it runs flawlessly.

I've got the ECS K7S5A board paired up with a 1600+ and the latest bios (011121) ... however, what I do is use third-party software in the Windows environment called 'CPUCool' that allows me to overclock my FSB, pretty much the only way to OC a motherboard completely bereft of voltage, multiplier, and real FSB adjustments. Right now I'm running at 147/147 (won't boot at 150/150) and 1.54 Ghz on conservative memory timings of Normal-2.5-6-3 with Crucial PC2100 DDRAM---although folks have reported hitting 150/150 with an identical setup to mine. As always, your milage will vary. :)
