xp-120 with evermax fan installation question

Hi guys,

I just tried installing the evermax 120mm fan onto my xp-120 following the instructions I received in the box. However, the picture shows the fan clips (the bent part) going into the 4 corner holes of the fan. However, the evermax fan I have doesn't have those holes. I then proceeded to clip the clips onto the fan, no holes to hook into, but it feels tight nonetheless. I was wondering if anyone else had this setup and installed the fan this way as well. I'm just not sure if the fan will move or fall off during use.

Thanks

Andy

You probably need to cut into the fan to open up the holes on the bottom of the fan. I had to do this too (trim the plastic that makes the holes into tubes from one side of the fan to the other).

I had to do the same thing Akira did, couple minutes with a dremel and it worked perfectly.

Thanks a lot guys. is it possible to install it without removing it and just letting the clips clip onto the fan next to those tubes? Or would it fall off?

If it's not recommended, then I guess I'll bust out a saw 🙂

Yeah, it's possible, but it only takes a couple of minutes with a hack saw.

Use a hack saw. A dremel will get pieces of plastic everywhere. Also those fanisolators work pretty good, but they are really easy to rip apart.

I tried using a hacksaw, but the evermax 120mm fan has screws that extend into the 4 tubes. When I started cutting I realized I couldn't cut any further and saw that I was cutting metal. I've decided to just clip on the fan next to the 4 tubes. It's still pretty sturdy.

Or... I could remove the metal grill thing on the fan? Doesn't this prevent me from putting it on one direction? (either suck or blow) If I removed the metal grill, which is held in by the screws, then perhaps I could cut the tubes off

Thanks guys

Andy

Asked and answered......
The grill's only purpose is to keep from slicing fingers.
I have removed all of them in my case. (Except for ones on th eoutside of course)

I used the saw that came in my Leatherman Super Tool... After cutting deep enough (and often enough) I was able to just snap off the material that made up the tubes. Pretty easy to do all things considered. It did make a bit of a mess from the plastic being cut, but that was expected. If you have a garage, or it's not too cold outside where you are, try doing it there.
