Anyone been able to compare these 2 heatsinks in terms of noise and cooling? I have an xp120 with a low speed panaflo which I find to be somewhat noisy. I want quieter without a loss in cooling. It appears the hyper 48 might be the answer, but I'd like some input.

I was wondering about that one as well.

I was wondering which of Zalman 700ALCU, XP90 and Hyper 48 was best for quiet overclocked cooling.

I suspect however that the XP120 would be best just simple because it's a huge honking heatsink.

Still as I understood it last heatsink generation at least is that the Zalman at low rpm was the best cooler as the Thermaltake solutions (SLK800 etc) benefitted much mroe from higher air pressure ie faster rpm.

Google search for some reviews ....as I remember it the Hyper 48 was decent though in a review they were even complaining that the fan could have been quieter and could benefit from being replaced

I had the Hyper 48 and it was very good. Really quiet, and cooled my 3200 winnie @ 2.5 at around 31-32 all the time. Was very satisfied.

Coolermaster = NO

The Hyper 48 can't hold a candle to the XP-90, 7700-Cu/AlCu, and most definitely not the XP-120. It's a cheap heatsink that does its job. But once the OC'ing starts flowing, it won't work.

Your solution.

First, a 120mm Panaflo L is not very quiet (the 80mm and 92mm are).
Second, it shouldn't be run at full speed for quiet.
Lastly, the above fan won't push as much air, but is very quiet even at fullvoltage.

A more expensive soltuon would be the above fan and a Scythe Ninja (though it seems to have gotten hard to buy all of a sudden :().

If by "can't hold a candle" you mean it looses to XP-120 by 1 degree, you might be right.

cheap? cheap made? cos price wise I see it at the local pc shop for damn near 60 bucks.

Your conclusion of "it won't work if you OC" obviously came from hours of hardcore testing and benchmarking.

the XP-120 also can save your life if a burgler breaks in your house!
